I have seen comments similar to "Oh No Not Again" in reference to the opcoming 09/16 UFC Fight Night's Stann/Cantwell fight. I can understand these sentiments, but not because of my opinion of either fighter. I consider both to be outstanding fighters. Brian Stann is the reason I was looking forward to this event.
My problem is that the UFC appears to be getting into the habit of grudge matches. This practice lends itself to the image the UFC professes to be divorcing itself from. Instead of an organization of the sport's elite, the UFC is evolving into a WWE grudge-type organization. I am beginning to associate the UFC's name with its current grudge, ie two fighters repeatedly attempting to "get even" until one's reputation is impaired.
When I saw Lesnar, in his attempt to "get even" with Mir, using tactics suitable for steel cage or street fights, as opposed to tactics common in MMA, and then proceed to sit on Mir, clutching Mir's throat, I was repulsed. The sport had taken a giant fall backward.
