HEY BABY, SIZE MATTERS
July 13, 2009NOW IT'S PROVEN ! !
WELCOME TO THE ERA OF THE SUPER HEAVIES This is not a blog about liking Lesnar or not. I want to discuss some facts. There have been and will be plenty of blogs dishing Lesnar, I’ll leave that for others. Well, all the hoopla is over but, not the debate. Brock is the champ period. However this does obviate the point there needs to be a Super Heavy Weight Division or we’ll see more chemically created monsters; {CCM} simply use their size to dominate an opponent. I love the heavies but, I also want to see a fight that involves skill and equal chance. The one thing that is clear to me is the weight difference cannot be made up by skill alone. 30, 40, 50lbs is just too much. [Not even Gracie could have fared any better] I have blogged about the need for another weight class for the Super Heavies before. Look, face the statistical facts, size matters after a certain point. Human being’s have been becoming larger on average [Darwinian Evolutional Theories] and is well documented when the Normans invaded the island nation in 1066 with the great Norman horse by the large Norseman. So unless we want to see more fights that are just determined by size, then we need to recognize the average man is bigger or we will see more of this and less competition in the traditional Heavy Weight Class. This point is most obvious with the Heavy Weight because of the old traditional weight divisions. We use the same basic divisions set up by the Marquess of Queensberry 143 years ago. [ Marquis of Queensberry rules. “Code of boxing rules.” It was written by John Graham Chambers and published in 1867 under the sponsorship of John Sholto Douglas, marquess of Queensberry (1844 – 1900) ].....(1889 US Heavy Weights were 190lbs)..... Mir was over powered plain and simple. If you’re a Brock fan or not we all saw that. Suggestion for the UFC, make a Super Heavy Weight Division. Size matters and for the sake of competition this new class needs to be implemented.
Now, I want to know WHAT DOES THE COMMUNITY THINK ABOUT THE SUPERHEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION or OTHER SUGGESTIONS regarding competition in the “Heavy Weight Division."

The world of boxing accepted the new weight classes, except for the term ‘cruiserweight’ in America, where there was already a 175lb class called ‘lightheavyweight’. This had been suggested by Lou Houseman, a Chicago newsman, in the interests of Jack Root, who was between the recognized middleweight and heavyweight limits. The British eventually changed their name for the class ‘cruiser’ to ‘lightheavyweight’ in 1937.2.................................................................................
Before 1909, even in weight classes which were generally acknowledged, some champions fixed weight limits to suit themselves. For instance, Bob Fitzsimmons raised the middleweight limit from 154 lbs to 158 lbs for his title defense against Dan Creedon in 1894. Fitzsimmons was a heavy middleweight and was having trouble meeting 154 lbs.3
