FEDOR? STRIKEFORCE?

November 4, 2009

come get me.

im just ******* with yah this is about the meaning of P4P in MMA. i put Fedor and stikeforce with ?'s in the title because that is the only way to get people to read your blogs around here lately. im kidding i love you all..please read.

ok check it. In boxing Pound for Pound rankings were invented for "Sugar" Ray Robinson. Frequently cited as the greatest boxer of all time, Robinson's performances at the welterweight and middleweight divisions prompted sportswriters to create "pound for pound" rankings, where they compared fighters regardless of weight. they basically meant that whoever wins at the most different weights and beats opponents at those weights who are of high caliber.

heres where it loses its function for MMA. boxing weights classes are

200 lb (90.72 kg)

175 lb (79.4 kg)

168 lb (76.2 kg)

160 lb (72.6 kg)

154 lb (69.9 kg)

147 lb (66.7 kg)

140 lb (63.5 kg)

135 lb (61.2 kg)

130 lb (59.0 kg)

126 lb (57.2 kg)

122 lb (55.3 kg)

118 lb (53.5 kg)

115 lb (50.8 kg)

112 lb (52.2 kg)

108 lb (49.0 kg)

105 lb (47.6 kg)

as you can see they only differ by 3-8lbs, i dont need to tell you that in MMA we have more extreme weight differences. (except HW but HW's dont even get mentioned for P4P) anyway the boxing P4P rankings are completely dominated by lower weight classes, because they can jump weight like the mother ******* energizer bunny and win 4-6 belt. in MMA you are a GOD if you can manage winning 2 simultaneously. in MMA we really shouldn't even use Pound for Pound as a name, because it is VERY misleading.

Our "Pound for Pound" rankings are based upon how many top ten opponents you defeat IN YOUR RESPECTIVE WEIGHT CLASS. And if you should happen to defeat someone who is on the P4P top 10, then your standing DRASTICALLY improves. For example, when GSP beat jon fitch, fitch was ranked 10th on the P4P list because he had reeled of 8 straight UFC wins. And when GSP beat alves he was also ranked 10th.

The reason Anderson silva is considered #1 is because he has beaten 9 top 10 fighters in his 10 UFC wins. (all except james irvin were ranked top 10 when they fought silva) And 4 were ranked in the P4P top ten (Franklin, Hendo Nate and Forrest were ranked not necessarily high but still on the list). The reason Fedor is third on the P4P rankings is because, yes he has beaten top fighters in his weight class and top ten P4P guys, BUT they were FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. thanks for reading, dont get all fedor crazy on me, cough>cough..cave COUGH. sorry swine flu....LOL! leave your comments and opinions.
