HW=dead weight?

October 2, 2009

Is the HW division lacking the fire that sits under the other weight classes in the UFC?

The UFC in my eyes has come a long way from the open weight, no rules and pretty much anything goes style they started with. I love MMA fighting with the 1 downfall having always been the HW division, it's had more title holders and interm champs than any division. The UFC is always in search of the fighter that will bring the HW division to the next level. Fans and mma news sites believed Fedor was that fighter. This was a no brainer, if you like him or not you'd want to see him fight the best the UFC had to offer. When the deal fell apart it left the UFC back in search of a fighter...what they got was a name, KIMBO! I wasn't really sure if this season of TUF would even get half the rating without a ''selling point'' and it's just crazy enough to have worked! If you like the guy than you want to see him do well, if you hate the guy than you'd pay to see him lose. Is he getting a free ticket into the UFC? Most likely yes, with rumors he'll fight on the TUF finale. So what's the community's take on the HW division in general?

    Afraidor on the feet; Lesnar on the ground... where's it most likely to end up? Quebec for Lesnar

    Now just gotta wait for Cave to say Afraidor defeated both Mirko and Nogueira(who defeated both Mirko and Barnett).

    Just for gags I wanna take a page out of your book, Cave, when it comes to Cain. Cain mauled Kongi, who beat up Filipovic, who mollywhopped Barnett, who was just considered #2, like, yesterday. And since Afraidor does have a 1 in his loss column AND a no contest, where as Velasquez is perfecto... give credence to an argument that Cain Velasquez is indeed the No.1 heavyweight in the world. So move over, Carwin, you're in Cain's spot. Hehehahaha

    It sucks, ever since Brock entered it, it has gone down hill. Only cuz there is no one his size in UFC. And UFC isnt trying to get anyone his size. They want too keep him as the big guy in UFC.

    Duffee is a flash in the pan, like Tuchsherer. Gonzaga cant beat anyone in top ten, Cain is only 6-0 cuz he faced bumbs.

    never been a big fan of the hw div but i think brock lesnar has added something to the division since he arirved and like mmahead sez there's plenty of up and comers...mite not be the strongest div but def the best it's been for awhile now..i agree tho it's def in need of a dominating champ...maybe if lesnar beats carwin he could be that guy?

    I think it's better then it has been in a while.... Antonio Nogueira, Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar,Shane Carwin,Junior dos Santos,Ben Rothwell,Gabriel Gonzaga ,Cain Velasquez,and look out for 6-0 fastest k.o. in ufc history Todd Duffee .All these guys either are or potentially could be top guys Plus there are a few other up and comers in there and whatever we can squeeze out of the new T.U.F. show. And the way this sports going it's only gonna get better!!!
