The Caveman: In My Own Opinion, hopefully you guys wont ask for a part 2.
August 5, 2009My opinion of the Fighters I believe that are the best.
The last few days leading up to this crazy week have kept with the ferver of many more Crazy Sh1t. At our current state in MMA we have still talks about Fedor, and The UFC, and now Strikeforce.........In my own Opinion we dont have a crisis on our hands, but we do have now finally another player in the game. True.
A lot of fans want Fedor in UFC. I dont. Reasons being are simple. Fedor in UFC means bye-bye other organizations who have fighters that UFC wont touch. Or believe are not worth bringing back. With Fedor in UFC, they will Monopolize MMA. That means no one will ever dare challenge UFC in Programming, and Pay-per-views. Only challenges are in Eurpoe & Japan. But nobody other than Hardcore fans check out Japan's MMA.
Now the fighters are what really matter here. And they are above the Brand, and always will be. The Best of the Best.
Brock Lesnar. Never has there been a fighter like him. No doubt the biggest thing to ever hit UFC in a long time. He is the best Super Heavyweight out there. And I mean from 250lbs and above. Truely the next step in evolution. But not for the Heavyweight Division. In my own Opinion, he has killed the UFC biggest division. If Shane Carwin cant get passed him, then no one will. There isn't anyone that can accomplish this feat. PERIOD. The only fighters that have beaten the freak shows are Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Nogueira, Mirko Filipovic, and Bobby Lashley.
Brock is the Reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion, and the beginning of the Super Heavyweights. And surely more will come out of the woodwork. Other Supers out there. Aleksander Emelianenko, Antonio Silva, Jerome Le Banner, Ben Rothwell too name a few.
Brock was my Favorite Wrestler in WWE, I thought of him as the new Bill Goldberg, the new Hulk Hogan in one. And was the best performer that WWE has ever produced since 'the Rock'(dwayne johnson). A legend in the making that wasn't to be. But still the greatest WWE Champion.
Fedor Emelianenko. Never will there be anyone like him. Only 6 feet tall and weighing 230lbs. He's not muscular, He's not arrogant, He's respects every fighter. His deamor in the ring is something to admire. His calmness & destructive nature in the ring is uncanny. And the only fighter to actually challenge Brock Lesnar's size & strength with his ability.
Fedor is the King of the Heavyweights. Where Brock Lesnar is The King of the Super Heavyweights. Both co-exist, but both are separated like all other weight classes, by Size & Weight. So Fedor is truely the Best Heavyweight in the world. Others that can make their mark with him. Josh Barnett(yes i know), Randy Couture, Frank MIr.
And is the best that comes from Europe, to the rest of this world.
Randy Couture. No one will ever say that Age is a factor when it comes to the Natural. his name says it all. There is no feat that Randy cant accomplish. Always the underdog in every fight. He may have lost more than 33% of his fights. But he has given those losses a hell of a fight. He was counted out against Maurice Smith. His 1st title shot. He was counted out agaisnt Vitor Belfort, at the time knocking all Heavyweights out.
Even dropping to Light Heavyweight he was counted out against Chuck Liddell. But proving that a wrestler can out-strike the striker. And even at 43 years of age, was able to defeat the giant in Tim Sylvia to become the most decorated Champion in UFC history.
Randy Couture. Captain America. The Natural. The best fighter to come from our home. The United States.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The best Heavyweight to come from the land of beautiful beaches & Beautiful women. Brazil. The man that is known as the Minotaur. A legendary Creature of Power & strength. Nog is known as having the best ground game ever, and for having the greatest chin in all of MMA. The fact that he can take a beating for 15 minutes and still win is a story book fairytale. He come from behind victories over Tim Sylvia, Bob Sapp, and Cro Cop are amazing.
Antonio Nogueira, one of the Pride fighters that came to UFC, and capture the Coveted Heavyweight title. The 1st fighter to ever hold the UFC & Pride Heavyweight title. The greatest fights to his account. Fedor vs Nog 1, 2(3 was more of 2), and Mirko Cro Cop.
The best to come out of Brazil(heavyweights).
I have descirbed the fighters above as my reasons for them being the best that there is. Fedor the Heavyweight King. From Russia. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the Heavyweight Champion to come from Brazil. Randy Couture the Heavyweight Champion of the United States, and UFC. And Brock Lesnar the Super Heavyweight Juggernaut. He is the UFC Heavyweight Champion, and one day might be Super Heavyweight Champion.
This is where i dabble down a bit.
Anderson Silva. The most dynamic Middleweight fighter to ever step into a cage/ring. I believe IMO he will never be stopped at Middleweight. When he retires, he will be remembered as the greatest Middleweight Champion that ever lived.
Lyoto Machida. The most elusive fighter to ever be seen. I first became aware of him when I heard this was the guy that first beat Rich Franklin. Since then I searched for him & found something amazing. I knew he would be a champion after his fight with Sokoudjou, and it was only a matter of time. Most people say he was boring, but against Rashad Evans he proved that he was more than meets the eye.
IMO his biggest test has come in the form of Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua. May the best man win.
Georges St Pierre. What can I say that we dont already know. After his loses he comes back more determine, and hungrier than before. And will go down as the best welterweight Champion surpassing Matt Hughes.
Wanderlei Silva. The name 'the Axe Murderer' doesn't even come to comparison when talking about this guy. There is no words that can describe his fighting style. His terrorizing destruction at the hands of Quenton Jackson proved why he was the best fighter to ever come from Pride.
Mauricio Rua. The most talented, most awkward unorthodox fighter these eyes have ever seen. Shogun like his partner & teammate Wanderlei Silva are two of the most dynamic fighters to ever appear in MMA. Most fans close their doors when it comes to Shogun, but I still see the fighter that once destoyed everyone in his path back in Pride.
There are a lot of fighters worth mentioning, but these are the guys that caught my eye before they were great, and after they became champions. Everyone has their opinions, and I even threw Brock Lesnar in there so you can see my thoughts on him.
Its getting late so I will end this here. Hopefully you can see where I am coming from on this. VIVA Fedor Emelianenko, Randy Couture, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Georges St Pierre, Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, and Mauricio Rua. And of course even Brock Lesnar.
