Of For[r]ests and Spiders and Keeping A Web Unpunctured [Updated]
August 8, 2009How could the finite English language contain the outrageous performance of Anderson Silva when he just rendered “laser-precision” a euphemism of and for the ancients?
Now, we writers are hard pressed to innovate. Ugh, the horror! Not only did The Spider welcome Forrest’s “intelligent aggression”, moreover, he craved for [well] more – and may very well be taken as cockiness by some but that deserves another blog. I feel sad for Griffin, very likeable a person and a fighter that he is, he got reduced to another toy, the middle weight tyrant, without breaking a sweat, played with.
On the other hand, however, props must be handed to whom it is due. Forrest came in to the fight knowing fully well the risks involved and it is with his unwavering heart that he fought this fight. Amen Forrest Griffin. The only thing bigger than you in all of MMA is your heart.
This time I hope the acidic doubts gnawing on fans' faith on Anderson Silva has been dispelled. I said it before I will say it again, he was bored against his Cote and Leites fights. You put a decent opponent before him, he bares his fangs.
Now the elephant in the octagon is: At 10-0 in the UFC, who’s next for Andy at middleweight? Really, is there anybody else? And if he shamed his welcome parties at 205 with great ease, how would the welterweight champ, GSP, fare against The Spider? Will a match between these two great fighters still feasible? To say that GSP will get BJ Penned at 185 might be a naïve understatement considering Silva's impeccable performance tonight. Rush vs The Spider may very well be man versus an act of god…
What about Lyoto? Here's what Anderson has to say about that possibility: “Lyoto’s my friend. He’s my brother, and there’s no way that fight will happen.” There was a pause for laughter and to take account of the gamesmanship between fighter and promoter. “And also not just because (Lyoto’s) my friend. (Lyoto would) be a big problem for me.” ^
Is he back? NO. ANDERSON "THE SPIDER" SILVA NEVER LEFT.
Concur, refute, for god’s sake free your mind.
Noteworthy [which means please write about it]: Penn’s title defense. Florian’s gameplan. Riley’s humility. Almeida’s strength. Sadollah’s horrible stoppage loss.
