It's Final, Vitor To Replace Barnett

Shawn Tompkins revealed that Belfort has signed to fight the heavyweight kingpin Fedor Emelianenko.

With Josh Barnett out of the bout due to him returning a positive drugs test, speculation surrounding a replacement to face Fedor Emelianenko included names such as Brett Rogers and Jeff Monson. The recurring name though was Vitor Belfort, and Belfort had previously stated his willingness to fight the Russian.

Shawn Tompkins, the head trainer at Xtreme Couture where Belfort is now based, told THE FIGHT NETWORK that the fight has been signed and therefore putting an end to the speculation.

Belfort was due to fight on the card at middleweight against Jorge Santiago but an increase in pay coupled with other added incentives involved in a bout with Emelianenko have obviously swayed him.

    There we go:-) Belfort is one of my fav fighters. This could prove to be a cool fight. With Vitor training at Extreme Cotoure,he's guaranteed to have cardio and groundbase training constantly. Combined with his Gracie Jiu-jitsu skills and his lightning handspeed i think he's got a shot at this. The only things to ever keep Belfort from the top as far as i see it is his mental focus and his cardio. Don't think that's a problem anymore. Can't wait!!! Belfort by KO:-)

    I got Fedor winning by armbar in the first. Vitor'll storm in, get judo'd to the mat, take some punches, attempt to escape while extending one arm up to try and push Fedor's weight, Fedor snatches it and leans back for the 31st victory.

    Very disappointing the UFC should have offered up a fighter the promotion is not going to last much longer anyway why not throw us fans a bone.
